Abstract

Background: Breastfeeding is a natural process that is not easy to do. Exclusive breastfeeding coverage cannot be separated from problems that occur in the breastfeeding process, including the wrong belief that there is little milk coming out or breast milk is not sufficient for the baby's needs. This situation is caused by several factors, including the food and drink consumed by the mother, the mother's psychological or emotional condition, abnormal breast shape so that it cannot play a role in the breastfeeding process, the baby's sucking can also affect breast milk production. Various studies that have been carried out in Indonesia to facilitate breast milk production include the oxytocin massage method, the marmet technique, warm compresses, rolling massage (back), endorphin massage, breast care, but due to limited information in health services about the implementation procedures, these methods only known but rarely given by health workers as care givers to patients.

Purpose: To increase mother's knowledge about complementary therapy to produce breast milk for primigravida mothers.

Method: This study used a quasi-experimental research design with pretest-posttest with control group design, which used the treatment group and the control group as a comparison. The sampling technique used is probability sampling with a simple random sampling approach and obtained a sample of 38 respondents.

Results: There was an increase in the milk production of primigravida mothers with a high risk of eclampsia.

Conclusion: There is an effect of health education on complementary therapy on the milk production of primigravida mothers with high risk of eclampsia.
